Choose a Host to build your business
The best host to choose is not the cheapest. A free host is bad for
your business and search engines. Make sure your host is good, not only
for now, but for your future profits.
A very few can make old-fashioned Web hosting work. But
99+% lose thousands of dollars and year(s) of time. And
TIME is one resource that, once spent, cannot be renewed.

Search engines either ignore free hosts, or give them negative marks.
Then you have to get many good marks from a good site before you can
overcome the handicap of using free hosts. Don't go into this business
if you can't afford the best host.
You can ask your Internet Service Provider to host your domain. However your ISP is likely to charge you just as much for host facilities as the best hosts, without offering half as many facilities. Many ISPs even refuse to host commercial sites. They say the facilities are for personal sites only.

- Space - 300 Megabytes
- Secure Site - if you collect money from your site
- Password protected pages
- CGI script facilities - You don't need these as a beginner, but you won't always be a beginner.
- Autoresponders - to follow up enquiries
- Traffic Analysis - You are working with a blindfold without at least some traffic analysis. Probably the analysis provided by your host will need to be supplemented e.g. With CGI scripts. I intend to offer a free script here when construction of my web site proceeds to that stage.
- Log Files to help you work out the success of your marketing campaign.
- Catchall e-mail - anything@yourdomain.com will reach you.
- Newsletters - a great idea if you are capable of producing regular newsletters
- Pretty Good Privacy - encryption only available in the USA
- Shopping Carts
- FTP - (File Transfer Protocol) used to transfer your files to your host computer.
- Anonymous FTP - for visitors to download software etc.
- Online Support manual - particularly important if you work when the support team is asleep.

So which host should you use?
There are thousands out there for you to choose from.
As I pointed out, you should avoid free hosts. But you can get a host free with a little effort. Several web hosts offer you commissions for referrals to them. That means that if you refer a few people to them, you will effectively get your host facilities free.
